Chinese’s countryside, after the recent decades of rapid development, has become the vassal of cities. Meanwhile, rural life itself is materialized into a lower state of urban life. When reflect on and try to propose a “sustainable”planfor the rural communities, it is essentially far from being possible on a narrow understanding of “sustainable”. What is in need is the countryside to be more spiritually and rural “sustainable”, picking up the abandoned rural tradition, connect contemporary conditions to the past, and make full preparations for the future development ofcountryside. It is “Sustainable rural community.”
The site is located on the other side of the water, fronting Zhulin, easily connecting neighbor cities, art Institutes and Zhelin Lake resorts. In observation of the surrounding social resources, the local Art Institute (West Jiangxi Fine Arts and the Art Institute of International Training Institute) and process design industry to promote local labor model transformation and economic development has played a significant role. By building typology research to local public space as an architectural prototype of a new community center for the villagers to introduce local culture driven by innovation and exchanges with painting, handicrafts related studio, exhibition halls, a customer center and boarding for visitors to tour the lake terminals.
According to the typology and scale research, and positioning of programs, based on extending andimproving traditional public events on Zhulin, in this community center we introduced new programs and scale planning. Positioning the typologies and programs of this community center, and based on topological features of the site, a settlement of boxes which contain different programsare spreaded on the site and streches along the slopes to the lake. This settlement also form a plaza in the center, and with the undulating ground, forms a continuous platform system both by the plaza and roofs, providing a number of interrelated public space.
